On This Day: March 12

In 1851, my maternal great-grandmother Ruth Franklin was born in Ohio. [Labette County, Kansas, death certificate no. illegible (1914), Ruth Snider; Kansas Board of Health.] She was the oldest child of Joseph Franklin and Rhoda Cary. She died August 28, 1914, in Parsons, Labette County, Kansas, and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery.

In 1912, my father, Jasper Jackson Spurlock, was born in Jacksonville, Cherokee County, Texas, the fourth, and youngest, child of Jasper Jackson Spurlock and Mamie Olive Martindale.
