1605: Thomas Graves was born probably at Ratliff, England, the son of John Greaves and Sarah Malter. My maternal 9th great-grandfather, Thomas was a mariner, serving as master on numerous ships in the 1630s. He reportedly died in a battle with the Dutch in the English Channel on 31 July 1653.
