Wordless Wednesday - Girl in a Railyard

Gloria Jane Spurlock, circa 1940,
in a railyard in the Houston, Texas, area.

My sister Jane talked about living in a boxcar when she was young. She said the family lived there so that she and her mother would be close to where Daddy worked. I am looking forward to trying to find the family in the 1940 census.

  1. A boxcar?!?! It will be interesting to see if that shows up in the census.

  2. That's the story! She was born in 1936 so the 1940 census will be the first on which she should be enumerated. My sissie passed away a few years ago and I wish I had talked with her more about her life.

  4. Amy, I just hope I can find this family in the 1940 census! My younger sister lives in McKinney, TX, and when I visit, we usually do a research road trip but we haven't made one down to Houston yet.
